Court Hands Down Suspended Sentence in Antisemitic Propaganda Case

(June 5, 2008)

A court in the Astrakhan region of Russia sentenced a member of the bizarre antisemitic cult "Towards God's Kingdom" to a suspended sentence after finding him guilty of forming an extremist group and inciting ethnic hatred, according to a June 4, 2008 report by the Sova Information-Analytical Center. Prosecutors argue that the defendant and his three confederates, who are being tried separately and include a doctor, an engineer, and a teacher at the Moscow Aviation Institute, were members of the cult since 2002 and as such engaged in antisemitic agitation, including public statements aimed at demonizing Jews.
