Vietnamese Man Shot in Petrozavodsk in Possible Hate Crime

A
citizen of Vietnam was shot in the head in Petrozavodsk, Russia in a
possible hate crime, according to a December 25, 2009 report by the
Sova Information-Analytical Center. The victim answered his door in a
building where many Vietnamese people live on December 20 and witnesses
say that a man dressed in black shot him. Ngyuen An, age 35, was
hospitalized in serious condition with major injuries to his eyes.
Police are investigating the crime as a serious assault, not a hate
crime. Local residents say that neo-Nazis recently put stickers and
graffiti in the entrance way of the building in an attempt to
intimidate the Vietnamese people living there.
